Gold Star Unit Program
Beginning in 1998, units in the Cornhusker Council had the opportunity to become a Gold Star Unit.
What is a Gold Star unit? How does my unit qualify? What are the benefits of being a Gold Star unit?
Gold Star units are those units that meet or exceed their annual Family Friends of Scouting Campaign goal.
The following example shows how the goals are calculated:
All of the Council Gold Star units will receive the following benefits IF the goal is met or exceeded
and received at the Outdoor Education Center no later than March 31 of the current program year.
A Gold Star Cub Scout Pack will receive all rank patches FREE! This will include Tiger Cub, Bobcat,
Wolf, Bear, WEBELOS and Arrow of Light. Benefits will after the FOS presentation is made and the goal
is met and will continue through January 31 of the following program year. In addition, Packs that
achieve Gold Star status will qualify for the first discount price of $35.00 for the Activities Trailer

Each Gold Star Unit will receive a discount of 10% off all BSA merchandise (catalog orders or in-store
stock) on ONE order between June 1 and June 30 of the current program year. All items purchased and
ordered must be paid in full the date that the order is made. Unit accounts may be used if funds held
on accounts covers the purchase amount.
In 2003, the Council Program Cabinet approved unanimously to implement an event payment structure that
encouraged Unit participation in Council fundraising activities. For each of the major fundraising events
that the Council uses, popcorn sales and the Family Friends of Scouting Campaign, Units can qualify for
discounted event prices. The three-tier pricing structure gives price differentials to Units that support
the Cornhusker Council by helping to raise operating funds. Each Gold Star Unit qualifies for the 1st
discount offered of the events during the current FOS term.
