Camp Cornhusker Staff Positions and Job Descriptions
Being on Camp Cornhusker Staff is a great way to spend your summer! Below are the job descritpions and positions
available on our staff. If you are interested in applying for any position, download an application from the

- Camp Director - Filled
- Responsible for all details such as financial records, food orders, orders for program equipment,
stocking and operating the trading post, health & safety, program concepts & content, and upkeep
of equipment and facilities. Directly responsible for all administrative and financial parts of
the camp including: trading post, dining hall, and registration. Hires staff and releases staff
members. Assumes Chair of Camp Management Committee in the absence of the Council Program Director.
BSA Camp School certified. 25 years old preferred. Reports to the Council Program Director.
- Program Director - Filled
- Responsible for the coordination of all Troop programs, staff training, OA operations and
utilization of equipment and facilities. Must have in depth working knowledge of Scouting.
Member of Camp Management Committee. Camp School certified for Program Management. Must be
at least 21 years old. Reports to the Camp Director.
- Camp Commissioner - Available
- Responsible for troop/patrol program development to ensure that the troop/patrol has a well-rounded
camp experience. Provides ad-hoc program activities to address special troop/patrol needs including
skills presentations, hikes, special tours and leadership skills. Must have in-depth knowledge of the
Scouting program and camp operation. Works through the Commissioner Staff to help adult leaders resolve
issues within camp. Helps to facilitate the provisional troop experience. Works with Ecology/Conservation
Director to implement troop/patrol conservation projects. Is responsible for adult and youth leader
programs and facilitates leader roundtables, SPL meetings and inter-troop/patrol activities as assigned
by the Program Director. Is responsible for troop campsite evaluations and administers troop/patrol
awards programs. Oversees the volunteer Commissioner staff. Is at least 18 years old. BSA Camp School
certification in Camp Commissioner preferred. Reports to the Program Director.
- Office Manager - Available
- Is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Camp Office and Quartermaster, i.e. answering the
phone, taking messages and keeping the Camp Office in good order. Responsible for inventory and check
out of camp equipment. Must be at least 18 years old and very responsible. Reports to the Camp Director.
- Trading Post Manager - Available
- Responsible for all merchandise and profits and losses incurred in Trading Post operation. Must have
retail sales experience and be at least 18 years old. Reports to the Business Manager.
- Health Officer - Available
- Responsible for taking care of all camp injuries and illnesses. Chief medical and safety advisor for
the Camp Director. Responsible for OSHA Bloodborne requirements. Must be at least E.M.T. certified.
Must be at least 18 years old. Reports to the Camp Director.
- Food Service Manager - Available
- Serves as Head Cook and is responsible for preparing and serving meals on time. Expected to complete
inventory reports and reorder food and supplies on a regular basis with the cooperation of the Business
Manager. Additionally responsible for all other aspects of kitchen and dining hall operation as directed
by the Business Manager. Must be at least 21 years old. Reports to the Business Manager.
- Dining Hall Steward - Available
- Assists in the food preparation and clean up as assigned. Is responsible for the supervision of the Kitchen
and Dining Hall Staff. Responsible for dining hall orientation for units checking into camp. Must be
at least 16 years old. Reports to the Food Service Manager.
- Outdoor Skills Director - Available
- Responsible for the development, coordination and teaching of the: First Year Camper, Scoutcraft Area,
and Handicraft Area Programs. He is the supervisor of the entire Scoutcraft Area. Teaches camping, cooking,
pioneering, orienteering, wilderness survival, leather craft, pottery, basketry, etc. merit badges.
Reports to the Program Director. Must be at least 18 years old.
- Handicraft Instructor - Available
- Teaches leather working, basketry, Indian lore, and pottery merit badges. Reports to the Outdoor Skills
Director. Must be at least 16 years old.
- Trail To First Class Instructor - Available
- Oversees the first-year camper program, Trail To First Class (TTFC).
Teaches and coordinates the requirements needed for a Scout to progress in rank to First Class.
Responsible to the Outdoor Skills Director. 16 years old.
- Shooting Sports Director - Available
- Responsible for all activities in rifle, shotgun, and archery areas, specifically for the instruction
and/or oversight of the Archery, Rifle Shooting, and Shotgun Shooting merit badges. Must be BSA Camp
School certified. Reports to the Program Director. Must be at least 21 years old.
- Archery Instructor - Available
- Responsible to the Shooting Sports Director for all programs related to archery. Must be at least 18 years old.
- Aquatics Director - Available
- Responsible for all safety, equipment, staff and program at the swimming pool and waterfront areas. Must
be A.R.C., W.S.I./Lifeguard, and/or BSA Aquatics School certified (preferred). Must be certified in
American Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR certified. Must be at least 21 years old. Reports to
the Program Director.
- Waterfront Instructor - Available
- Responsible to the Aquatics Director for areas of Aquatics Program assigned. Must be BSA Lifeguard certified
or A.R.C., W.S.I./Lifeguard or BSA Aquatics School certified. Must be American Red Cross Standard First Aid
and CPR certified. Must be at least 18 years old. Reports to the Aquatics Director.
- Ecology/Conservation Director - Available
- Responsible for all conservation projects, nature and ecology merit badges, and special campsite improvement
projects. Must be taking collegiate courses in, pursuing a career in Nature/Ecology Area or BSA Camp School
Certified in Ecology/Conservation, preferred. Must be at least 18 years old. Reports to the Program Director.
- COPE Director - Staffed By COPE/Climbing Committee
- Plans Project COPE program in accordance with BSA policy and procedures. Must be at least 21 years old
and BSA Camp School certified. Reports to the Program Director.
- COPE Instructor - Available
- Responsible for areas of the COPE Program as assigned. Responsible for the opening and closing inventory
of camp facility equipment related to the COPE program. Must successfully complete BSA COPE Instructor
training and certification. Must be at least 18 years old. Reports to the COPE Director.
- Trekking Director - Available
- Plans Trekking program in accordance with BSA policy and procedures. Responsible for inventory of equipment.
Experience in hiking and backpacking needed. National Camp School certification for this position is required.
Must be at least 21 years of age. Must posses a valid driver license (a current driving record may be requested).
Reports to the Program Director.

- Responsible to the Trekking Director for all areas involving the Trekking Program. Experience in hiking and
backpacking needed. Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Commissioner Staff - Multiple individuals needed each week, Read below...
- Works with troops and patrols on program development to ensure that the troop/patrol has a well-rounded camp

with adult leaders to resolve issues within camp. Conducts daily campsite evaluations and promotes participation

- Provisional Scoutmaster - Positions Available - Multiple individuals needed each week
- Assumes responsibility of Acting Scoutmaster for campers attending camp without their unit. Provides leadership
and guidance for camper participation in program activities. Ensures advancement sessions are attended as directed
by the camper’s Scoutmaster. Experience as a Scoutmaster or Assistant Scoutmaster helpful. Must be at least 21
years of age. Reports to the Camp Director.

- Program Aides, Adimistrative Aides, Dining Hall Staff
- Responsible for all tasks assigned by your area director. This includes: the development of lesson plans, kitchen
operations, merit badge teaching, safety procedures, etc. Also responsible for participation in evening and special
programs. Report to their own Area Director. All other aides and assistants need to be 16 years old.

- Counselor In Training (CIT) 1 - Available - and 2 -Available
- Responsible to the Program Director, CIT-2s will be assigned to specific program areas.
CIT-1s assignments will be rotated on a daily or weekly basis depending on the number of
CITs in camp. They will receive experience in Aquatics, Outdoor Skills (Scoutcraft), Ecology/Conservation (Nature),
Trading Post and Dining Hall. Room and Board, staff gifts and accessories are the only form of compensation.
