New Scouting for Food Format
New changes made to the Scouting for Food service project that you should be aware of if this project is something your unit traditionally participates in.
How It Was Done Last Year
Traditionally, we had units hang door signs door to door one week and then pick up donated food the following weekend. We also had opportunities for units to "man" a Hy-Vee station; a unit would sign up for a particular Hy-Vee location and divide up the hours appropriately amongst their unit.
What is Different This Year?
- April 23rd - April 28th units will collect food on their own time in their own neighborhoods.
- Units in Lincoln will combined all their collected food so the Food Bank can weigh how much your unit collected. Rural units will need to get their food weighed at their local co-op and then drop off their food to their local Food Bank.
- Please submit you total amount of food collected on May 6th. The winner for the Scouting for Food prize will be calculated on May 7th.
Prize Options
The unit that has collected the largest pounds of food collected per boy will win a prize. That unit will get to pick from 1 of 3 options:
- One climbing wall session for 15 people.
- One free night of camping in the new treehouses at the Outdoor Education Center (number of people they can accomodate still needs to be determined as they finish construction).
- One free night of camping at the Outdoor Education Center for the entire unit.
