Climbing Instructor Training to be Held

What:
- The Cornhusker Council COPE/Climbing Program is holding its Spring 2012 Climbing Instructor Training.
When:
3 Consectutive Tuesday evenings from 7-10pm
- February 21
- February 28
- March 6
- Participants must attend all 3 sessions.
Cost:
- $20.00 course fee per person, which includes course fee, all training material and a cool COPE/Climbing T-Shirt
BSA Climbing Instructor Training is designed to certify or renew certification as BSA qualified Climbing Instructors who are able to deliver safe and exciting BSA sponsored climbing and rappelling activities. To receive certification, participants 18 years and up, must hold a current First Aid & CPR certifications, attend all sessions of the training; and agree to read & adhere to Climb On Safely protocols, the guidelines set in the Topping Out: A BSA Climbing/Rappelling Manual, and the current BSA National Standards for climbing & rappelling activities. (CPR & First aid can be taken after the training)
A participant needs to bring a BSA Annual Health and Medical Record (580-001) properly filled out and signed upon arrival.You can download the form here: Annual Health and Medical Record (680-001)

In order to complete the Instructor Course, the participant will have to be at, and participate in, each of the three (3) sessions for the entire time. Each participant needs be bring a good attitude with him and should not have a fear of height. The participant should wear clothes suitable for climbing: soft sole lace-up shoes (tennis shoes)(No hard sole shoes, flip-flops, boots, etc), shorts or loose fitting pants, tee shirt.
After completing this course, you will be expected to help operate the OEC Climbing Wall, and will have general knowledge of the BSA Rock Climbing Program. After helping with three climbs, the participant will be recognized as an “OEC Climbing Wall Instructor” and will know what the BSA expects when members of the BSA engage in Climbing activities. The course will be conducted by BSA National Camp School recognized Climbing Directors and members of the Climbing Committee as needed.
